Righteousness is a principal thing in the Kingdom of God. Paul raised this question on the book of 1 Corinthians 6:9:
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God?
And the bible says all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. At the same time, the bible says we must pursue righteousness.
So, how do we pursue righteousness or how one become righteous in God’s sight? It doesn’t matter how other people see you, this includes other believers. What matters is what the word of God says or how God sees you. Make the word of God final authority in your life.
First, we have to define what is righteousness. Child of God, wait and hear what the word of God says for those who believe in Jesus Christ. God has declared all those who are in Christ righteous through faith in Him. I will explain everything.
Let’s start by defining righteousness, to be righteous is to be like you never sinned. It is not as the world define it, that you have to do your best to keep the law and you might be righteous one day. Never think that by your own works you can even be righteous. The bible says, ‘Our righteousness is like filthy rags’ but the same bible tells us not to stop to do good. The good we do, does not at all make us righteous, I will explain!
The bible says all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, so no one is righteous, for all have sinned. How do we move from being sinners and be the righteous of God? We have established that we cannot be righteous by our own works. The bible tells us, ‘to seek His righteousness and everything shall be given to you’. How does all of this fit into the equation because so far, it seems as if it is impossible to become righteous. Indeed, it is impossible with men but with God everything is possible.
Let’s start from the beginning, we are not sinners because we sin, we are sinners because of Adams sin. Meaning, we are sinners when we are born because of Adam sin. It sounds unfair, how can we be sinners because of one man (Adam). Wait until you hear the whole story, you will be singing Hallelujah because of the other One man.
In this world we are all born sinners, because of Adam’s sin. Yes, including little children but this is not an issue now. Let’s go to the bible before you say, I am making this up.
Romans 5:19 King James Version (KJV)
“19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.”
This verse is very clear; it says by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners. We all know that one man was Adam. What is very interesting about this verse is the second part, it says, ‘by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous’. Who is the One that by his obedience many will be made righteous? The verse does not say by their obedience; they will be made righteous. Neither does it say His obedience and their/our obedience, we shall be made righteous. It is very specific, that by the obedience of One man, many shall be made righteous.
Who is this One? Jesus Christ is the One that by His obedience many will be made right. Remember, Jesus is the only one who kept the whole Law of God. Glory to God. The most famous verse in the bible John 3:16 says:
John 3:16 King James Version (KJV)
“16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
This verse brings the idea why God sent His only son to the world. It was to save the world, because He loved the world, so that whosoever believe in Him shall be saved. I am glad the bible said ‘whosoever’. No qualifications only believe in His Son, even the worse of sinners.
Let’s go back to the subject of righteousness. This next verse will show a clear picture on how we become righteous.
Corinthians 5:21 New King James Version (NKJV)
“21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”
The bible tells us that Jesus ‘knew no sin, did no sin and no sin was found in Him.’ He is the One, at the cross the bible says he became sin for us, so that whoever believes in him will receive righteousness from God through faith. Righteousness is a gift from God, it’s not by works, lest any man should boast.
It is all by the grace of God. Is this so simple, it sounds too good to be through? The bible says on,
Romans 10:9 New King James Version (NKJV)
“ 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Yes, it is this simple if you have been told otherwise forget it and go back to the scripture, the Gospel of Christ to be specific. You will find this all over the place throughout Apostle Paul teachings, this was His main argument that we are no longer justified by observing the law but through faith in Jesus Christ.
Remember one thing, as much as it sounds simple, all of this did not come cheap. God Almighty had to send His only begotten Son to die the most cruel death ever. And most important this is not automatic, you have to believe in Jesus.
I do not care what you have done in your life, how many times you have done it. In Christ or when you believe in Him, God sees you righteous as He is.
1 John 4:17 King James Version (KJV)
“17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.”
Not that we will be like Him one day as some suggest, the bible is very clear on this verse, ‘so are we in this world,’ present tense.
In the eyes of God, not men, God sees you as if you never sinned in Christ, this is important, in Christ. When we believe in him, we get into Him. He is our refugee, our hiding place.
The only way to be righteous is by believing in Jesus Christ, there is no other way. Jesus is the way. It’s all by grace through faith. Ephesians say no one can boast.
Ephesians 2:8-9 New International Version (NIV)
“8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”
Salvation is from the Lord, not from men. Righteousness is a gift from God. We as Christians do good not because we want to be righteous but because, we are already being made righteous. That’s who we are, we do good to others, in our life, we leave our old ways and live for God. The bible says we are born again, but we no longer born sinners, we are born righteous. We were all sinners before the cross, divine exchange took place at the cross. No difference Jew or Gentile, female or male, we are all saved by the same grace.
I repeat, salvation is available to all but it is not automatic. It is for all who believe in our Lord Jesus Christ.
From today, have faith and believe that you are the righteousness of God in Christ. God sees you as you never sinned. The bible says in the new covenant; He remembers our sins no more. They are wash away by the blood of Jesus and they are white as snow. They are far from us as North is far from the South.
This is faith, faith in the blood of Jesus, believe it, confess it with you mouth even if you don’t see it or feel righteous, in Christ you are.
All glory to God our Father!!!
