In this article, I want to outline the importance of believing right. When you believe right, you will definitely live right. In the body of Christ today, we hear more about right living which you will agree with me, that it is not working, if you have been in the church like me. We see it everyday, the church is not living holy life.
The problem is not the people; the problem is what they have been hearing. Right living is a result of right believing. The church focuses more on the behavior rather on the Gospel. Do not get me wrong, there are times that we need to correct each other.
I also tried to focus on behavior as a newly born again Christian because it was the message I was hearing. I thought that was the Gospel – to preach about behavior modification. Honestly speaking it was an everyday struggled.
I thank God our Father that He opened my eyes and led me to the true Gospel of Christ that assisted me to overcome all the struggles I had. Even today, I am still seeing victory over victory. It is a continuous thing, not a one day thing.
The bible tells us on Proverbs 23:7 King James Version (KJV)
“7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he…”
Let me not bit around the bush, the wrong message that I was hearing was the law which focuses on behavior. Then I learnt from the Gospel in the word of God that the law cannot make anyone holy. On itself it is holy, good and perfect but it could not make anyone holy or righteous before God. The law only shows us our faults.
The bible on 2 Corinthians 15:56 says, ‘The power of sin is the law’
“56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.”
So why give sin its power by preaching the law? So what must we preach and believe then? The bible is very clear on this one. It says we are minister of the new covenant.
2 Corinthians 3:6 New International Version (NIV)
“6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.”
The bible is very clear on the new covenant that we should preach and believe. The church is called believers for a reason because they believe. The bible say we are of faith.
The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ affirms categorically that we are righteous by faith in Christ and we are no longer under the law as believers. Righteousness is a gift from God, that is available to all who believe apart from keeping the law.
Romans 3:21-22 New International Version (NIV)
“21 But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness is given through faith in[a] Jesus Christ to all who believe.”
In Christ we are already made righteous or right with God without keeping the law but because of the wonderful work our Lord Jesus Christ did at the cross. The bible tells us, who knew no sin became sin for us.
This is the foundation of Christianity, we need to believe this, we need to believe what the bible says. We are believers, trust me, God knew exactly what he was doing when He revealed the Gospel to men. Apostle Paul in the books he wrote shows that this is the gospel he was preaching everywhere he went.
Believe that you are righteous in His sight then fruits will follow, your behavior will change. Your position with God in Christ has changed. Your true identity is exactly like of Jesus Christ. The true righteousness, that is of God not your own. It is unshakable. Open your eyes child of God, if it depended on our righteousness in anyhow, we wouldn’t see the end of the day. Remember the blood of our Lord Jesus Christ washes all our sins, not some.
