The Law [Ten Commandments] cannot make anyone right or righteous with God but it was given that every mouth may be silenced.
When you believe in Jesus Christ, you are born again, born of God, born righteous. You are no longer a sinner but you are the righteousness of God. It is about time we view things from God’s eye of view and not with our natural eyes and understanding.
It is very important to know what the word of God says about any subject not people’s point of view. Some people’s point of view, if not most of them, they sound as sort of wisdom, only to find out they are contrary to what the word of God says. It is very important to know your identity in Christ. Today, it is that day where you will know your true identity in Christ and your life will be transformed as you behold our Lord Jesus Christ.
A true identity of a Christian (born again) is true righteous that is of God not men, the best kind of righteous that there is. What am I saying? I am saying if you are a Christian in God’s eyes you exactly like Jesus as if you never sinned. Your sins are wiped away as far as east to the west by the blood of Jesus and God remembers them no more.
Am I advocating sin? No, no, not at all! Do not get me wrong, God still hate sin, God is against sin and God still do not want you to sin. Hence this salvation did not come cheap, God Almighty had to send his only son Jesus Christ to die for our sins so that we can be justify freely by grace and become like Him. Righteousness is a gift from God available to all those who believes in His Son. I, myself hate sin, thought I should put this on record.
Now let’s go to the word of God in details and see what it says. Never mind what people have said, people have said many things. It’s about time now we give the word of God to have last say or final authority in our lives, as one man of God said it, “If it’s in the word of God, I believe it, that settles it” but we also need to be carefully to rightly divide the word of truth as Paul the Apostle advised Timothy in the book of 2 Timothy 2:15:
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed correctly handles the word of truth’
This means the word of truth can be wrongly handled or wrongly divided, which is the case in most instances.
Let’s go straight to the word of truth, Romans 3:19-24:
“19Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be silenced and the whole world held accountable to God. 20Therefore no one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law, through the law we become conscious of sin. 21 But now righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made know, to which the law and the prophets testify. 22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of glory of God, 24 and are justify freely by His grace through the redemption that come by Christ Jesus.
It’s all grace. From verse 19 to verse 20 above, it is very clear that law cannot make anyone right or righteous with God but it was given that every mouth may be silenced and held accountable before God and that we are guilty of sin. It further states that no one will be declared righteous by observing the on verse 20.
Let me quote verse 20 again, “20Therefore no one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law…” So if the bible says no one will be declared righteous by observing the law, I would like to find out how one will people be declared righteous if it is not by observing the law. For many years this is how it has been preached, that keep the law then you will be righteous. But not according to the scripture above. Let me go a bit deeper on this issue, I believe we must use a bible to interpret bible because one scripture or one verse can easily be taken out of its context. Hebrews 7:18-19
“18 The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless 19 (for the law made nothing perfect), and a better hope is introduced, by which we draw near to God.”
The first question I will ask myself is, what is a former regulation that is set aside because it was weak and what is the better hope that is been introduce. The answer to the first question is found on verse 19 in brackets which shows it’s the law. Other translation makes it clear that the former regulations that are useless is the law.
Remember the law on its own is holy, righteous but the problem with the law, it could not make anyone holy, righteous or perfect hence the above scripture says it was weak and useless.
There are many other verse that says the law could not make anyone right with God but we will discuss them in our future articles. Believe me child of God, the new testament says a lot about the law of Moses as it is called in the bible that you hardly hear preached instead you will hear the opposite is preached. Apostle Paul emphasized everywhere, where he preached the gospel that we no longer under the law and that we are righteous by faith.
Let’s go back to Romans 3, we have established that no one will be declared righteous by observing the law. So how can one be declared righteous in the eyes of God.
Romans 3:21 quoted above gives an idea that this righteousness is apart from the law or exclude the law. “21 But now righteousness from God, apart from the law, has been made know, to which the law and the prophets testify.” What interest me most is that this righteousness which is apart from the law is from God.
Mathew 6:33 says, “33 But seek His kingdom and His righteousness…” Notice something on Mathew 6:33 it is not our own righteousness but His righteousness. Righteousness that is from God.
As I conclude while continuing with Romans 3:22, it answers our million-dollar question. How to get this righteousness that is from God, Romans 3:22,
”22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference,”
Finally, now I know that this righteous come through faith in Jesus Christ and there is no difference or qualification as long as I believe. Meaning when I believe in Jesus Christ, I have righteousness that is of God, the best kind of righteousness.
Even Abraham had the same kind of righteousness. The bible say Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. The bible is very clear that, ‘all who believes’. Let’s not add things that are not there on the word of God.
Remember this righteous did not come cheap as it sounds, God had to send His Beloved Son, our Lord Jesus Christ to die for our sins that whoever believes in Him shall be saved and declare righteous. Romans 3:23-24 state it very clear that
‘all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’
If you say you never sinned, you will be lying. Therefore, we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. We all need a Saviour. Thanks to God that he sent His Son as a saviour of the whole world that whoever believes in Him shall be saved and have eternal life. I am glad that God said whoever. This is the unconditional love of God for us. Now we are called true sons and daughters of God. On Romans chapter 1 and 2, it is also very clear that we are all sinners whether under the law or not we all need Christ.
On the next article I will be explaining what happens when you sin, after you have been declared righteous or justified freely by His grace. You can also get my book; Grace is the Truth where righteousness is tackled in more details and simplicity as it is written in the word.
